Is the Britten-Norman Islander still made there?

I seem to recall at one time the military deciding it was just what they wanted but the Civil Service/MoD was having none of it.

Yes. They swapped out the 1930s underground rolling stock for 1980s. Going up in the World. There's a steam engine train line and a rocket launching site plus two airports. Cycling is great as well as walking. Its all a bit hilly though do be warned.
The feel of the place is 1960s Britain in many ways. I’m here now and the sun is out and its hot.

I think the railway has had an upgrade so the old underground stock has gone not sure if the work has finished yet.

Seem to remember reading that the entire human population of the world could fit on the Isle of Wight with standing room to spare.

No wonder they voted overwhelmingly against open borders and the freedom of movement on the Isle of Wight.

Right Troy

There’s a go kart track thats fun
There’s crazy golf at Sandown.
Sandown pier is proper old school fun if its raining
Ventnor has a nice small beach with decent food and pubs.
Just along from Ventnor is a tiny bay thats like Cornwall called Steephill cove. Lovely in good days and has food there. A bit middle class but manageable.
I like doing Totland bay for sundown. There’s a good restaurant pub on the prom. You get very Ibiza sunsets.
Robin Hill country park is good for the kids.
Bembridge nice.
Apply Beach by Ryde is lovely.
Pubs with food: The Taverners Godshill, Spyglass Ventnor bay, Bonchurch Inn Bonchurch but most are fine.
Newport is the only mid sized town and has a few things to do if its dull but I dont go there much.
Cowes for a slice of boatiness. Depends on your interests.
Loads of walking but doesn't sound like your thing?
Blackgang Chine and Needles are popular classic destinations.
On the ferry there are guides with loads of stuff in them you can take for free.
On the south West if the Island is a huge bay in National Trust land. Compton bay can be nice when its sunny and the tide is out. Good surfing there.

Let me know if you need any more detail

If you have good weather pay a visit to Bembridge. Lovely little harbour and beaches.

The train from Shanklin to Ryde is also worth a go, its a 1960s East London line tube train!!!

Went years ago and stayed in a bloody tent in Wooton Bridge! Seem to remember Shanklin, Sandown and Cowes were all pleasant for a visit.
